INTRODUCTION
NEWEPS is a small working group that brings together scholars who use cutting-edge empirical methods to study the political economy of governance, representation, development and conflict. NEWEPS focuses on research that uses rigorous, creative methods to do micro-level analysis of key questions in comparative political economy and international relations. Field experiments, quasi-experiments, and innovative uses of administrative, remote-sensed, historical, or other behavioral data are of particular interest. The meeting does not have a specific geographic focus.
The “conference” section of the NEWEPS website explains how conference meetings function and how papers are selected to balance various considerations (paper potential, upcoming job market paper, previous presentations and participation, and geographic and institutional diversity) with the goal of maintaining a strong and inclusive NEWEPS community.
Our thirteenth meeting will be a half-day event held on September 13, 2019 at Columbia University. We gratefully acknowledge financial support for the conference from Columbia’s Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy (ISERP).
Due to growing attendance at NEWEPS, we will test out a new format where 8 papers will be presented over 2 parallel sessions. Limited travel resources will be available for out-of-town presenters only.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the registration form.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The workshop organizers invite submissions for completed papers and detailed research designs to be included in the NEWEPS-13 program. Priority will be given to papers that use innovative methods to study questions relating to governance, representation, conflict, or development.
Both faculty and graduate students are encouraged to submit their work. We hope to hold meetings where a diverse range of perspectives can be heard, and thus strongly encourage submissions from authors identifying with under-represented groups.
